Brian Harman’s 2023 Open Championship Victory
Brian Harman won the 151st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in July 2023. He posted rounds of 67, 65, 69 and 74 for a 72-hole total of 275. His 13-under-par score was six shots better than the nearest challengers, giving Harman the largest winning margin at The Open since Louis Oosthuizen’s seven-shot victory in 2010.
Harman took control early at the historic Hoylake links. His second-round 65 moved him into the lead, and he extended his advantage to five strokes after 54 holes. Although difficult wind and firm conditions raised the pressure in the final round, Harman closed with a 74 to secure the Claret Jug.
The victory was particularly impressive because Royal Liverpool demands precise driving, controlled iron play and intelligent links-course strategy. Harman’s compact swing, reliable left-handed ball flight and excellent scrambling suited the course’s fast fairways, deep bunkers and unpredictable coastal weather.
